Where have you been hiding?

OHAI.

“You finally decided to stop hiding under a rock,” I hear you say.

It’s not really like that. Well, it kind of is, but it’s not intentional. You see, going to university is kind of harder than I expected. You actually have to do work to pass (weird, because everyone I know who attend university never do much of anything except party and sleep). It’s tough being a student.

And being a student means being poor. Not that writing blog posts costs anything except for time and brain power. But both of those things have been dedicated to university for the past 11 weeks.

And being poor means being totally uncool. Not the type of uncool where you like Star Wars and think you’re cool, but the type of uncool where you don’t have any spare time OR money. A kind of reluctant nerd.

But not that kind of N.E.R.D. I mean a broke-ass nerd who makes 1:50 models on a Friday night instead of going to the Napier for jugs because they spent their last $20 on an A1 sheet of 5mm foamcore. Did I mention super glue is really expensive?

Truth is I have been doing some cool (inexpensive) stuff. I discovered Lentil As Anything at the Abbotsford Convent. I’ve been exercising (I did get lost down by the Yarra, but that’s another story…). I’ve been taking some great photos. I’ve met some rad people.

But mostly I’ve been been covered in glue and cardboard while I’ve struggled to make clean architectural models.

Making clean models is bloody hard. I have a new-found respect for Dungeons and Dragons nerds who paint game pieces. So maybe to a bunch of nerds, you could imagine I look a bit like this when I’m making models:

But in reality, I look more like this:

So technically I haven’t been hiding under a rock – I’ve been hiding under a pile of glue. Very expensive glue.
