When it comes to sneakers, I’m generally into sports styles. Nike Air Max, Structures, hybrids, etc. I don’t mind the odd high top, but usually Dunks, Jordans or off-beat stuff like L.A. Gear. That was, until I joined the Blazer Appreciation Society (BAS).
I was initially hesitant to join the ranks of the BAS. But with a little gentle persuasion thanks to my friend and BAS founder Mookie, I found myself more and more attracted to these skinny boots.
Mookie’s dedication to Blazer’s is second to none. Even Mookie’s self-paste-up featured her wearing her beloved Blazers. I salute you!
But it’s her dedication to all things creative that was real the inspiration behind my 28 Days of Kicks.
In fact, it was Mookie’s amazing project 30 New Things was where all this shoe business came into my head. For 30 days (whilst I was overseas last year), Mookie did a new thing everyday. From learning new languages to self-paste-ups, Mookie’s 30 New Things helped keep me connected to home while I sometimes felt so far away. Everyday I got a little piece of home through her.
I feel lucky to have Mookie in my life, she’s one of the most decidedly creative people I know, and a constant source of inspiration. Aside from all of her amazing craftiness, the most inspiring thing about Mookie is her job as a Mum to the coolest 7 year old I know, Zee. Mookie’s ability to balance life as a DJ, artist, creative, designer, blogger, producer and Mum never ceases to amaze me and if I ever have a kid – she’s exactly the type of yummy mummy I’d aspire to be.
Anyway, back to shoes.
Whilst in Amsterdam, I came across a shop called Tom’s Skateshop. It was here I made an unexpected discovery – one last pair of Nike Blazer Premium SB Kiss’. I’d seen these yellow and black numbers on the internet, but never expected to find a pair. As fate would have it, this very last pair were exactly my size.
And I wouldn’t be wearing these today if it wasn’t for Mookie.

Ooh I like them. Also enjoying reading through Mookie’s blog now. Cheers for the hook up.
